Kandalama Tank overflow disrupts Dambulla-Wewala traffic

The overflow of Kandalama tanks yesterday obstructed traffic on the Dambulla-Wewala main road, causing inconvenience to tourists and disrupting civilian life. 

Chief Engineer of Bowathenna Reservoir Buddhika Mahesh Navarathne said the tank swelled owing to the heavy rain experienced at present. 

He said excess water is being released through the Kuda Thammenna canal into the Mirisgoniyawa tank at the speed of 780cu.ft per second. 

The buses on the Dambulla-Wewala main road transporting tourists were wading through floods.
