Some applications claiming the Rs 25,000 initial payment for restoring houses which were affected by the cyclone Ditwah were found to be problematic in the District of Colombo, Colombo Divisional Secretariat said yesterday.
As per the data put out by the Divisional Secretariat, some 1,429 applications for the initial payment of Rs 25,000 for the restoration of houses which were party damaged or went underwater as a result of cyclone Ditwah have been found to have various shortcomings.
Also, some 1,169 applications have been rejected. The payment has been made to some 48,974 applicants in the Colombo District.
Only 7,633 applicants out of a total of 27,683 have been paid Rs 50,000 offered by the government to purchase kitchen equipment. A sum of Rs 962,900,000 has been allocated for this purpose for the Colombo District.
Furthermore, it has been revealed that only 2,811 school children in the Colombo District have been paid Rs 15,000 offered by the government to purchase school stationery. A sum of Rs 940,365,000 has been allocated for assisting the Ditwah-affected children in Colombo District.
