More than 8300 students who sat for the GCE Advanced Level examination 2025 excelled by obtaining three As while some 30,898 failed in all three subjects, The Department of Examinations said yesterday.
Commissioner General Examinations A.K.S. Indika Kumari Liyanage told media that some 7477 children who obtained 3As had applied for the examination through schools while 823 were private candidates.
Out of the 30,898 school children who failed in all three subjects, 19,301 had applied for the exam from schools while 11, 597 were private applicants.
A total of 221,413 applicants sat for the examination in 2025 out of which 60,397 were private applicants. According to Commissioner General, 146,405 school applicants and 30,122 private applicants have qualified for university admission.
Accordingly, 176,527 candidates have qualified for university entrance, accounting for 62.64 per cent of the total number of applicants.
Meanwhile, the results of 111 candidates, including 43 private applicants, have been suspended.
