The government will take eight steps - bus lane priority, promotion of cycling, park and ride services, the increase of frequency of rail services - to be implemented from June 15 to redress the current passenger transport crisis, a statement from the Ministry said.
The Transport and Highways Ministry said the dedication of a filling station only for passenger transport buses and the introduction of new buses for the benefit of schoolchildren and office goers are also among these steps to be taken. Minister Bandula Gunawardana said these measures were evolved with the participation of experts in the field.
