Don’t come to Israel: Sri Lankan Ambassador

By Yohan Perera

Whilst highlighting that international flights to and from Israel have been suspended, the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Israel, Nimal Bandara, yesterday advised Sri Lankans who are hoping to come into that country to postpone their journeys.

“Those who are scheduled to arrive in Israel from Sri Lanka are advised to postpone their flights until the security situation improves,” Mr Bandara said in his latest post on social media.

“Several missile attacks were launched in Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem this morning, but no casualties have been reported so far. We are constantly updating security advisories for foreign workers in Israel and kindly ask Sri Lanka expatriates to be aware of them,” he added. “Those who are in Israel and intend to depart for Sri Lanka should rebook their flights,” he also said in his post.

“In light of the current security situation in the region, all Sri Lankans in Israel are strongly advised to exercise the utmost caution and remain vigilant at all times.

It is crucial that all individuals adhere strictly to the security guidelines and instructions issued by the Israeli security authorities and the Israeli Home Front Command.

We also urge all Sri Lankans to familiarise themselves with the nearest safe spaces in their accommodation, residence, or workplace,” he further said.

Furthermore Mr Bandara told local media that Sri Lankans should not panic if their relatives in the Middle East does not answer their phones calls as communication across the region has become difficult as a result of the conflict.
