CID launches probe into hacking of Public Security Ministry website

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into the hacking of the official website of the Ministry of Public Security.

Police said that authorities have observed that the Ministry’s official website had been hacked on several occasions. The police said that the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SL CERT) and the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) have taken the necessary measures to rectify the issue. However, during the period in question, certain irregularities were observed in the display of the national emblem on the website. Acting on the instructions of the Minister of Public Security, the Secretary to the Ministry lodged a formal complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department.

Based on the complaint, the CID has now commenced a full investigation into the incident.

In addition, the police said that an internal investigation has also been initiated at the Ministry of Public Security to identify lapses and prevent future cyber security breaches.
