Opposition MP Dayasiri Jayasekera has urged members of the Constitutional Council (CC) to exercise vigilance when considering President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s nominee for the post of Auditor General.

Addressing the media, Jayasekera alleged that an investigation is currently pending at the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) against L.H.I. Jayaratne, who has been nominated for the position.

“I am not trying to exert undue influence on the Constitutional Council, but merely requesting its members to be vigilant when making their decision,” he said.

According to the MP, Jayaratne is under investigation by CIABOC over allegations that she obtained air tickets from several state banks which she had previously audited. “She has not yet been acquitted by CIABOC,” he claimed.

Jayasekera further stated that Jayaratne had once been warned by a former Auditor General for marking examination papers of an accounting body during official working hours while she was serving at the Auditor General’s Department. He also claimed that Jayaratne’s name had previously been rejected by the Constitutional Council when it was submitted by the President on an earlier occasion.

In addition, the MP criticised Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake, accusing him of making a false statement regarding a meeting of the Constitutional Council. “The CC never met on Saturday,” Jayasekera asserted.

However, Ratnayake has already refuted the claim, stating that the Constitutional Council did meet on Saturday and is scheduled to meet again on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, to finalise the appointment of the Auditor General.
