Amidst the severe cold a body of a newborn baby found in Nuwara Eliya Lake

A sa severe cold spell enveloped Nuwara Eliya, with temperatures dropping to 3.5°C–5.0°C  The police recovered a newborn infant’s body from Lake Gregory in  the early hours of yesterday.  

Nuwara Eliya police accompanied by the Judicial Medical Officer of the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital retrieved the body from the lake following information given by the boat owners and the life guards of the lake.   

Police said that a part of the umbilical cord of the baby remained on the body when it was found. The body was handed over to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital. No arrests have been made so far in connection of the incident.
