Due to the mystery surrounding the death of a 14-year-old boy who died on January 2 in Nuri Estate, within the Noori Police area of Deraniyagala in Kegalle District, the body was exhumed yesterday (12) before Avissawella Magistrate Pramod Jayasekara.
On January 2, the boy had died under mysterious circumstances while at home with his mother and father.
During preliminary investigations conducted by the Nuri Police, suspicions arose regarding the cause of death. As a result, the boy’s mother and father were arrested in connection with the incident.
Following their production before the Avissawella Magistrate’s Court, the suspects were remanded and are currently being held at the Kuruwita Remand Prison under court order.
Claiming that there are serious doubts surrounding the child’s death, the boy’s relatives and residents of the Nuri Estate staged a protest in the estate on January 6.
They demanded that the truth behind the child’s death be revealed and called for a proper and impartial investigation.
In order to determine the exact cause of death, the Magistrate ordered yesterday that the body be exhumed and referred for further post-mortem examinations in his presence.
The incident has caused significant unrest in the area, and police have intensified further investigations.
