Independence in all its glory

The country’s 62nd Independence Day celebrations were held in the hill capital Kandy today with President Mahinda Rajapakse hoisting the national flag outside the Temple of the Tooth. Processions in all their pomp and pageantry were also held during the morning and early afternoon hours of the day marking the first national celebration of Independence since the defeat of the LTTE.
