Mrs. Chintha Munasingha's award received in her absence by Mrs. Rohini Madiwake from Mrs. Sheila Ebert
The Sri Lanka Federation of University Women (SLFUW) held its “Members with Families Day” on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at its headquarters in Colombo.
SLFUW President Col. Dr. Udula Krishnaratne addressed the audience and paid tribute to Mrs. Clara Motwani, an American-born educationist who founded the organization nearly 83 years ago. She also thanked all members, non-members, and well-wishers for their support.
The day’s programme included the presentation of scholarships to three needy female undergraduates: one each from the Faculties of Law and Indigenous Medicine of the University of Colombo, and one from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ruhuna.
Awards were also presented to three members for their outstanding contributions to SLFUW: Mrs. Anandi Balasingham, Retired Senior Journalist (Lake House) and Consultant at Tamil Mirror of Wijeya Newspapers, awarded by Dr. Udula Krishnaratne Mrs. Chinta Munasinghe, Retired Commissioner of Inland Revenue, and former President of SLFUW (In absentia accepted by Ms. Rohini Madiwake) presented by Mrs. Sheela Ebert, a former president of SLFUW Mrs. Neelia Fernando – a specialist in the development and maintenance of information systems in the National Science Council. The award was given away by Ms. Jayanthi Liyanage, a former SLFUW President.
Dr. Krishnaratne also handed over a cash donation to the Visually Impaired Foundation.
The event was a joyous occasion for SLFUW members and their families to come together and celebrate the organization’s long and rich history.
