Low-floor buses is an excellent proposal. Another one would have been but missing is 'we will stop blaming the past for the current problems but do our utmost to resolve them'! AKD can win a good chunk of people from the opposition if he makes that promise! He will be our President too if he does that!

No mention of increase in tax slabs. Seems to me like tax payers are just funding pay increases to the inefficient public service employees and funding the recruitment of more of them.

It’s very regrettable no allocation of funds to develop Palali airport to international standard. Thus no business travellers to the North, failure of tourism, failure of connection to rest of the world, failure of 50,000 jobs in the north. Nothing mentioned about handing over private lands to rightful owners. When will it happen. ? This is one of the reasons for a two states in one country.
Nagendran Monday, 17 February 2025 07:44 PM
North will not be able to develop without an international airport to the standard of BIA. If politicians, governments cannot realise and understand, they are burying their heads. Palaly should be the place. Suggesting any other places will end up like Mattala and will delay development.

Congratulations to NPP for the announced wage increase for estate workers. The wage increase is limited to RPCs and state-owned estates. I strongly believe the plucking norm will remain at 18 to 20 kgs (with an additional 2 to 3 kgs for sack rates per session). This is because our tea bushes in the plantation sectors are saturated, and no matter how much is fed, this is the maximum can be plucked by a worker per day in Sri Lanka.
Nimal Fernando Monday, 17 February 2025 06:32 PM
@Lala Very true. The tea pluckers bearly manages to pluck 25 kilos daily and the estate get paid Rs.170.00 per kilo. With all the befits to the employees and the overheads that is very high as cost of production. President try to buy tea estate and see if you could make a profit or would go bankrupt like our country.
