05:06 PM

That brings us to the end of our coverage for today's game. Join us again on Tuesday as Sri Lanka go up against Afghanistan in Brisbane.

05:05 PM

Sri Lanka on the other hand will be hurting. They remain stuck at 5th position in the table and would need big wins in their remaining games to entertain any chances of making the semis

At the end of the day, however, Sri Lanka's fielding and batting let them down. With the bat, Rajapaksa and Shanaka made 30s but nobody else could enter double figures, and in the field, that dropped catch off Phillips early on hurt Sri Lanka immensely.

04:54 PM

That's the game! New Zealand win by 65 runs!

Sri Lanka are all out for 102 and New Zealand consolidate their position on top of the table.

Trent Boult finished with 4 for 13 but the Man of the Match award can only go to Glenn Phillips whose fabulous century headlined this victory.

04:46 PM

Shanaka goes and Boult has his fourth

Shanaka holes out to deep square-leg and New Zealand are on the verge of victory.

D Shanaka c Mitchell b Boult 35 (32)

04:40 PM

Sri Lanka 91/8 (16 overs) :Target 168

Dasun Shanaka has made his way to 35 but the game is all but over at this stage. Sri Lanka need another 77 runs in 24 balls

04:25 PM

Sri Lanka are falling in a heap

Hasaranga and Theekshana both succumb to Mitchell Santner and the score now reads a sorry 65 for 8 (12.3 overs)

04:16 PM

Sri Lanka lose their sixth

Rajapaksa tries to lift Ferguson over the in-field but finds mid-off

B Rajapaksa c Williamson b Ferguson 34(22)

Sri Lanka 110 in 60 balls with 4 wickets in hand.

04:10 PM

Sri Lanka 52 for 5 in 9 overs.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa (29 not out) has played a few attractive strokes and has been joined at the wicket by Dasun Shanaka

The required run rate has gone over 10.

Karunaratne pulls Santner straight to the fielder

Sri Lanka are now 24 for 5

C Karunaratne c Boult b Santner 3(8)

Sri Lanka 8 for 4 (4 overs) :Target 168

03:37 PM

Sri Lanka 5 for 3

Mendis nicks behind

Now the greatest of starts for Sri Lanka as Boult induces an edge from Kusal Mendis to leave them 2 wickets down with just four runs on the board.

K Mendis c Conway b Boult 4(3)

03:30 PM

Nissanka's miserable day continues

Tim Southee raps him on the pads and the right-hander has to go without scoring

P Nissanka lbw Southee 0(5)

03:16 PM

Sri Lanka need 168 to win!

Phillips' 104 has taken New Zealand all the way to 165; rescuing his side from the troubles of 15 for three early on.

Kumara dismissed him in the final over but the damage was done by that stage.

Sri Lanka will be ruing the two dropped catches by Nissanka and Shanaka, especially the former which was an extremely straightforward chance when the batter was still on 12.

Kasun Rajitha was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers with 2 for 23 while Hasaranga too was miserly.

03:06 PM

That's a Century for Glenn Phillips!

What an incredible knock this has been. It's a hundred off 61 balls and he's carried New Zealand to safety after that disasterous powerplay.

New Zealand are 153 for 5 with an over to go

02:59 PM

Neesham goes, but Phillips continues to dominate

Kasun Rajitha removes Neesham but Phillips on the other end has motored along to 86 not out from 52 balls. With three overs to go, a century could well be on the cards

NZ - 129 for 5 in 17.1 overs

02:45 PM

Hasaranga breaks the Partnership!

Mitchell tries to get in on the action but his swing down the ground is beaten on the inside edge.

James Neesham joins Phillips at the wicket.

D Mitchell b Hasaranga 22(24)

02:42 PM

Fifty up for Glenn Phillips!

He's making the Sri Lankans pay for dropping him twice. He brings up his fifty off 39 balls.
Sri Lanka's fielding has been woeful today and New Zealand are capitalising.

With 18 runs off Chamika Karunaratne's third over, the Kiwis are setting up nicely for the final phase.

New Zealand 94/3 (14 overs)

G Phillips 58*(42), D Mitchell 22*(23)

02:33 PM

New Zealand 70/3 in 12 overs

Sri Lanka's fielding has been sloppy during the middle overs which has allowed Philips and Mitchell to settle in nicely. Sri Lanka in need of another wicket as Phillips in particular is looking dangerous

02:17 PM

It's been a rebuilding period these last few overs, with Mitchell and Phillips knocking the ball around.

Wanindu Hasaranga has started his spell in much better fashion than a few days back and was unfortunate not to have dismissed Philips who was spilled by Nissanka at long-off

New Zealand 45/3 (9 overs)

G Phillips 22*(22), D Mitchell 10*(13)

02:01 PM

New Zealand 25 for 3 after the powerplay

Sri Lanka have bossed these opening six overs. Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell have a big job ahead of them considering that New Zealand do not bat very deep.

01:53 PM

Edged! And Williamson goes!

It's been a dream start for Sri Lanka. Rajitha induces an edge from Williamson and the Kiwis are in all sorts of bother at 15 for 3 in four overs.

K Williamson c Mendis b Rajitha 8(13)

01:46 PM

New Zealand have lost another!

12:50 PM

A very good afternoon everyone! Welcome to our live coverage of today's Men's T20 World Cup Super 12 encounter between Sri Lanka and New Zealand which could prove to be a very vital game for Sri Lanka's chances of making the tournament semi-finals.

The two washouts between Ireland and Afghanistan, as well as England and Australia, yesterday would not have been the worst news for the Sri Lankan team who now have the opportunity of moving to the top of the table should they notch up a win today.
