A person’s bookshelf tells a story of interests, inspirations, and ideas that have shaped them. In Pages & Perspectives, we ask people to share what they’re reading, their all-time favourite books, and the ones that have left a lasting impact. This week, Raffealla Fernando, fashion and celebrity photographer, takes our Q&A.
QHow would you describe your reading taste in three words?
I like psychological, uplifting, romantic and sometimes emotional.
QWhat book has had the biggest impact on your life and why?
I read Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty just before the lockdown, and it completely captivated me. That book opened a door to a new way of thinking, it drew me into the world of uplifting reads and introduced me to meditation. What started as curiosity turned into a life-changing shift. Meditation grounded me, and the wisdom from that book became a foundation for how I live today. It didn’t just change my reading habits; it changed me.
I still wouldn’t say that it had the biggest impact, but it definitely had a big impact.
QWhat are you currently reading?
Currently, I’m reading Good Life - Good Vibes by Vex King.

QIs there a book you recommend to everyone?
Ikigai - The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life by Francesc Miralles and Hector Garcia. If you’re looking for a reading experience that heals, uplifts, and transforms, this is absolutely a book worth picking up
QDo you prefer physical books, e-books, or audiobooks? Why?
Physical books. I always carry a book in my bag; there’s something undeniably magical about them. The scent of paper and ink, the feel of a new book in your hands… It’s more than nostalgia, it’s energy. I genuinely believe that books carry a kind of energy, and when you hold one while reading, it grounds you, centres your focus, and opens a quiet portal within you. It’s not just reading, it’s absorbing, connecting, transforming. That’s something I truly believe in.
QDo you have a favourite genre or author?
I don’t have a favourite author. Currently, I love reading poetry and uplifting books. I also like good humour, romantic novels and fiction.
QWhat’s a book you disliked but couldn’t stop thinking about?
Hate is such a big word, maybe I’ll use the word dislike here - I felt disturbed reading the book inside the mind of Jeffrey Dahmer.
QIf your life were a book, what would its title be?
What an interesting question.
The Escapist
Framed in Black and White.
QWhere do you usually read - bed, café, park, beach?
Bed, beaches, cafes are my favourite places to read.
QAny underrated books or hidden gems you’d recommend?
None of them. There will always be readers like me to find these gems.
