The Ceylon Heritage Festival, founded and organised by Sarita Rajandran, celebrated Sri Lanka’s cultural legacy and was graced by the Mayor of Colombo, Vraie Cally Baalthazaar. This year, the National Craft Council collaborated to inaugurate a heritage museum, a project born out of their dedication and hard work. Their tireless efforts in curating and preparing the exhibits were truly commendable, aimed at opening the museum to the public by the 17th of this month. This achievement stood as a testament to their commitment to preserving and celebrating the nation’s rich cultural heritage.
One of the highlights of the evening was the experiential exhibition featuring artisans from across the island, who travelled from all corners of Sri Lanka to demonstrate their exquisite skills, offering guests an exclusive preview of their mastery, craftsmanship, and passion.
The festival also recognised outstanding contributions to heritage and craftsmanship. Master weaver,
Mr. Yapa received the Heritage Lifetime Achievement Cultural Legacy Award for his six decades of dedication to Dumbara weaving. Yoland was honoured with the Heritage Lifetime Achievement Award of Style Legacy, and Ramani received the Iconic Heritage Award. Following this, the evening concluded with a curated fashion show showcasing Sri Lanka’s renowned textile traditions.
