GABRIEL’S CHARITY AUCTION & FASHION SHOW



Emphasised the need for coexistence between humans and animals

Gabriel’s Charity Auction and Fashion Show in aid of Rescue  Animals Sri Lanka [ RAS ] was held on 31 October at the Cinnamon Grand .  Presenting Partners, Cinnamon Grand,  Aditi [whose founder Ramya Weerakoon is a pillar of the apparel trade],  Hi Magazine, Wijeya Newspapers , and many others threw their might in support of the Fundraiser to ensure it’s success. Designers Brian Kerkoven, Charini Suriyage, Dammika Amarasekere, Jaishri better known as Aashkii, Kamil / Limak and Rajni whose label is Radisi, as well as Presenters Aditi, showcased a glittering  mix of both evening and smart casual wear, while the Auction which was handled by Aritha Wickramasinghe and Vrai Raymond, had an eclectic array of items ranging from handmade pottery , a cricket bat autographed by Mahela, paintings and sketches by Laki Senanayake, Stanley Kirinde and Rajasegar.  All models came from the Brian Kerkoven Academy, while Gerald Solomons and his team at Chagall were Hair & Make up partners for the show, with entertainment provided by Enroute, headed by Dr Gananath Dissanayake, himself an animal lover, who agreed to partner with RAS without a seconds hesitation.

The fashion show was a testament to the commitment of Sri Lanka’s leading designers who unhesitatingly came forward to assist RAS in their fundraising endeavours.

Gabriel’s Rescue Animals Sri Lanka was founded by Anusha David and named after her father Gabriel, whose lifelong love for animals and deep commitment to their welfare began over five decades ago. Gabriel’s RAS stands up for animals in need, no matter the species. In recent years it has rescued farm animals from slaughter  along with countless birds and other creatures in distress. The Trust currently has 4 cases in court regarding elephant abuse and the DWC’s failure to act against animal cruelty.
