Discover wellness by the sea at Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle

Blessed with sun, sea and a calming natural rhythm, Tangalle offers a perfect escape for travellers of all kinds throughout the year. One of the most sought-after destinations on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, it is tranquil and tropical, defined by rugged beauty and dramatic ocean views. Set on a rocky headland overlooking a quiet crescent of golden sand, ‘Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort’ blends effortlessly with its natural surroundings. With the ocean as its backdrop and nature at its heart, the resort offers a peaceful retreat where comfort, calm and understated luxury come together.

Entering its second decade, the resort has unveiled an expanded Anantara Spa menu, adding new depth to its already extensive collection of traditional and modern therapies. Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort is now home to the region’s only spa overseen by three resident Ayurveda doctors. Led by Head Ayurvedic Doctor Bhagya Wellapilli, the team of qualified medical officers works closely with experienced practitioners in pristine facilities, ensuring authentic, safe and highly effective wellness experiences.

Alongside strengthening its wellness team, the resort has introduced a new Ayurvedic beauty sanctuary called ‘Ayu Lavanaya’. The name comes from the Sanskrit words ‘Ayu’, meaning life, and ‘Lavanaya’, meaning grace. Designed as a modern take on a traditional Ayurvedic beauty parlour, the sanctuary focuses on both outer care and inner wellbeing, using age-old rituals and natural wisdom. Set within a newly created space surrounded by the lush gardens of Anantara Spa, each treatment at ‘Ayu Lavanaya’ is carefully designed to deliver visible results while promoting long-term wellness.

A range of signature therapies sits alongside a complete menu of Ayurvedic manicures, pedicures and eye treatments. The Kumkumadi Royal Facial uses the well-known Kumkumadi oil to brighten and firm the skin, leaving it soft and glowing. The Kesha Revive Hair Ritual combines a lime and onion extract head massage with warm triphala therapy to ease tension, strengthen hair roots and improve scalp health. For deeper renewal, the 120-minute Prana Radiance Ritual helps cleanse the senses and restore energy through a carefully guided sequence designed to relax, rebalance and refresh the body. Guests can also enjoy traditional Abhyanga massages, Pizhichil Kerala-style oil baths, Sweda heat therapies and more.

‘As a fully trained Ayurvedic doctor, I understand the importance of creating a calm and welcoming space where guests can feel completely at ease. By combining this environment with a wide range of carefully delivered treatments, we are pleased to offer a truly soothing wellness experience on Sri Lanka’s beautiful south coast, now and for many years to come’ said Bhagya Wellapilli, Head Ayurvedic Doctor at Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort.

Beyond Ayurveda, the award-winning ‘Anantara Spa’ has introduced four specially designed aromatic massages using the island’s natural ingredients. A ‘Four Hand Massage’, performed by two therapists working in perfect harmony, helps melt away stress and bring deep relaxation. Drawing on the healing power of the sea, the unique Seashell Massage uses smooth, warm shells in gentle flowing movements to relax muscles and improve circulation.

Age is no barrier to relaxation at Anantara Spa, which offers specially designed 30-minute Kids’ Massages for children aged four to 12. Using gentle pressure and natural coconut oil, these treatments help support growing bodies in a safe and soothing way. Expectant mothers can enjoy a 60-minute Pregnancy Massage that focuses on easing the back, neck and shoulders, helping to reduce swelling, improve sleep and enhance comfort for both mother and baby.

Yoga is another highlight at the resort, with sessions held by the sea, creating a calm and uplifting setting.

A modern fitness centre and nourishing, nutrient-rich menus further support the wellness journey, helping guests gain the most from every treatment. For those seeking deeper healing, five-day wellness programmes are available, focusing on inner balance, better sleep, natural weight management, or complete detox and renewal.

Anantara Tangalle Resort is more than just a luxury wellness retreat. Set above the Indian Ocean near the historic Fort town, it is an ideal base for discovering the beauty and adventure of  South Sri Lanka. Comfortable rooms and stylish private pool villas, supported by a 24-hour Villa Host service, allow guests to relax fully between outings. A range of restaurants and bars offers international dining, paired wines and special experiences, from relaxed afternoon tea to hands-on cooking classes.
