Hard work, intelligence, and dedication are the primary factors that contribute to success in everything we do. Quite a few become upset when someone comments or compliments them by saying,” you are lucky”, as it makes them wonder how their success can be attributed to a factor called “luck” when they have worked so hard to achieve.

On the other hand, believing in it frees a person from worrying about things beyond their control and opens the mind to a vast cosmic force that one cannot always easily understand. In short, believing in luck means accepting that life is a series of opportunities that aren’t necessarily present for the reasons we think. You might miss a flight or a business opportunity and attribute it to poor planning, but perhaps it happened for another reason. For example, on the next flight, you might meet someone who changes your life for the better.

In Japan, viewing lotuses in full bloom during the fall has long been a favourite pastime. Autumn is the season of the lotus in many parts of China and Japan, when these flowers can be seen across mountain lakes, domestic urns, rice fields, and parks. Lotus flowers evoke the gentler virtues of humanity, creating an ambiance of harmony and ushering in positive, calming energies into the home. Known botanically as “Nelumbo nucifera”, lotus flowers—especially those in colours of pink and white—are also considered sacred.

It represents the past, present, and future, and also signifies the mind, body, and spirit. No doubt, during celebrations, we often say “Three cheers.” The Chinese believe that the third day of the new moon is a lucky day. The moon, which symbolizes many concepts in esoteric studies, has three phases: waxing, waning, and full moon—each with its own array of meanings and cycles of luck.

Taoist Feng Shui also mentions lucky money, specifically carrying a coin minted in a leap year. When such a coin comes into your possession, the process of its circulation is believed to activate good luck in financial matters and is considered a “lucky charm.”

One might dismiss it as a superstitious belief, while others may consider it a powerful enhancer of good fortune.
