Claiming that immediate intervention of the Government was needed to resolve the incidents of gas explosions,National Peoples' Power (NPP) MP Vijitha Herath said today steps should be taken to withdraw the controversial gas cylinders from the market preventing further disasters.
He told Parliament that the President had called for a report within two weeks and said immediate action was needed for this issue without waiting for more time to address this issue.
“If we wait for two more weeks, more damage would be caused by then. Immediate action is needed in this matter. The controversial gas cylinders are still being sold in the market. They should be withdrawn and provide people with alternative ones,’ he said.
He said it would take at least a month to resolve this issue if action is delayed till the report of the committee appointed by the President was received.
“It will take at least a month to take action based on the report. The report will be received after two weeks and will take two more weeks to analyse it and take action” he said.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

To withdraw the cylinders is the duty of a responsible government and it appears that this government doesn’t have that responsibility towards its country men.
