Claiming that the state institutions are running at huge loss due to decisions taken by politicians, National People's Power (NPP) MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today that those who were responsible for plunging the state institutions into loss making entities, should be dealt with before privatising them.

He told Parliament that state institutions such as SriLankan Airlines and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) were found to have been loss making bodies due to actions of the politicians.

"SriLankan incurred huge losses due to Airbus deal and fraudulent actions of its officials. Onetime Chairman of the SriLankan, a close relative of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa brought down a SriLankan flight to Singapore without waiting for a scheduled flight. SriLankan is recording heavy loss due to such arbitrary actions. CPC is incurring huge losses due to actions such as the Hedging deal," he said.

The MP said President Ranil Wickremesinghe said in his budget speech that state institutions are overcrowded and added that those institutions are unnecessarily filled by politicians through political appointments.

He said the politicians who are responsible for these evil actions would never find solutions to the present crisis and said a new government should be formed with new mandate. (Ajith Siriwardana)

That's right. Here we go ... accountability and responsibility . and people in the country has a right know why we are privatizing these state own coperatations.

You keep on harping something everyday. Why don't you take the lead and take action against the persons responsible? People will salute you if you do it. Otherwise it is a waste of time reading your utterances.

No more tax man Friday, 02 September 2022 04:20 PM

Before all others privatize these SOEs. else we have to pay their loses in the future too. enough is enough

    Cheers Friday, 02 September 2022 04:29 PM

What were you doing 2015-2019 in parliament nothing wasted tax payers money stealing getting houses in Ireland and travelling and enjoying all perks

    Lal Friday, 02 September 2022 04:30 PM

So the AKD theory is continue loss making until those responsible are taken to task. Can he explain why he thinks the government needs to be in business for starters? Government is there to set policy and govern. Period.

JVP has now lost the little favour it had with the people. There is the view that the leopard has not changed its spots. They oppose everything and want to ram down their ideology and views on solution down the throat of the country. They are unaccustomed and unable to compromise. They find it hard to acknowledge any good done by another party. Sadly they are fit for none other than the dustbin of petty adversarial politics.

Tak Tik Tuk Friday, 02 September 2022 04:59 PM

    So true to the core!

AKD better opposition leader Friday, 02 September 2022 05:08 PM

AKD is talking more about changes than is SJB or Sajith. The SLPP faction who still in opposition won't even vote in the next budget vote. The JVP seems the only real voice in opposition to government policies. When will the other non-government MP start to speak up, or maybe they just all want to be an all party government.

    sam Friday, 02 September 2022 05:19 PM

Anyone can mismanage an organisation and get away scot free. Answer is to privatise huh

We are public voice Friday, 02 September 2022 05:40 PM

JVP was catching up in middle class due to some liberal thinking in last few months. Their opposition to privatize of tax eating SOEs has taken away middle class support . They will have 3% for ever with as a leftist support

Keep your peace! Friday, 02 September 2022 06:16 PM

It is very nice of you to make this suggestion, but why don't you take one more step and name those who caused this slide? YOU KNOW THEM! Come out with the names and help the Auditor to start the audit process. If you are afraid of the repercussions keep your peace. Good for you.

Anurakumara's vision is impressive and taken seriously, govt. should take action against officials who were responsible for the loss making decisions, mostly political appointments were greatly responsible for such losses, govt.should move quickly to address these issues.

No one has any courage to take action against the United States, who made such a situation by ousting His Excellency Gotabaya Rajapaksa from the post of Presidency, to achieve their (USA) MISSION a SUCCESS.

    Mahila Sunday, 04 September 2022 02:33 AM

What if, IS the USA mission?? Whatever that may be, are you trying to suggest, the war winning Weera Sahodaraya, is inept and incompetent to sense that plot by USA or passively pass-off as a non-event, being ex-US citizen?? Are you even suggesting we have elected Executive President a “Mole” of US of A?! Believe not??! Alternatively, worst case scenario, are you suggesting Sri Lankans inveigled electing a CIA SPY?!! Gota admits promoting Organic fertiliser and by banning Chemical fertiliser to achieve that end??!! He has ADMITTED to that FOLLY?? Cause of food crisis (1 meal)

If a new government has been appointed through legitimate elections, JVP will no long secure a single SEAT in parliament. JVP's former leader Rohana Wijeweera, robbed the nation, and his entire party members are responsible for the situation we face right now. So, serve prison terms or hang them all to JVP members in Parliament immediately without any more delay.

Its like in a road accident, before you take the injured to the hospital, first find who is responsible for the accident and beat him on the road. That's how AKD will solve the burning issues.

Kiris Baba Amaray Saturday, 03 September 2022 07:34 AM

Most of the Former Potuwa MPs only robbed and ruined the state institutes and they should be punished.

    sunil Saturday, 03 September 2022 08:53 AM

if any action has to be taklen it has to be atken against the JVP and its funded trade unions- are you ready AKD

    gamini Saturday, 03 September 2022 08:54 AM

ofcourse action needs to be taken to make thoise responsible. But taht can hapen even after privitisation. Why continue to make a loss until the culprits are charged

    bandara Saturday, 03 September 2022 08:55 AM

Just last week JVP Vijitha Herath announced proudly in parliamnet that it was the JVP that stopped privitisation in 2005. So JVP should be the first to be cahrged

    Mahila Sunday, 04 September 2022 02:01 AM

(PartI) Private sector is - as claimed by JVP and the Left parties (Socialist) - is very much profit oriented?? If that is so, they - that ‘SYSTEM’ - will not inherently, TOLERATE OR APPOINT and be comfortable with inefficient, incompetent, and inept management at any level - top, middle or low level management or employees??! Get them, “BEST BANG FOR THE BUCKS” is the motto and as part owner of the CORPORATE, the Government/State/People would reap, REVENUE – TAXES, Return on Investment (RoI)??!! We are sadly today missing A MEAL, FUEL, GAS, RISING CoL?! 64 % (Continued)

    Dee Saturday, 03 September 2022 02:52 PM

The unions of these SOE's are responsible for their downfall. They only are concerned of their 'rights' . Not the 'rights'of the nation.

    Vibz Saturday, 03 September 2022 05:51 PM

Cases against these goons will drag for several years, and AKD wants sl public to carry burden of these inefficient govt organizations until that

    Sambo Saturday, 03 September 2022 07:58 PM

Very true, No one is talking about that. recover the stolen money first from those responsible.

    Mahila Sunday, 04 September 2022 02:02 AM

(PartII) Sadly but truly, as SALIENT part of, SLFP, JVP and left Governance, since 2006 – didn’t ensure RoI or EIA, as integral component or as an element on evaluation of ANY ONE PROJECT?! Lakvijaya CPP, Eo1, Matara-HBB Rail line, HPP, MRIA – Mattala, MR Cricket stadium, Weeraketiya et all??!! Do not plead you aren’t responsible, you didn’t whimper or protest, kept silent and cohesive?? CULPABLE AS ARRAIGNED equally for passive partnership of misdeed??!! Own up with integrity?! In reality, todays crisis of Macro-economic failure of the state, is YOUR (JVP) FOLLY TOO??!!

Priyanee Wijesekera Sunday, 04 September 2022 02:54 PM

What he is suggesting is to delay privatisation under the excuse of probing the people who caused the decay. Is this the remedy to prevent further decay ?

    “ The Lansi Burgher Gent “ Monday, 05 September 2022 05:39 AM

“… oh good grief, here we go again with the rambling…” isn’t there anything optimistic to come out of this lot, ever? Or, is it always going to be so depressingly, pessimistic?

Demuni Uduwara Monday, 05 September 2022 06:17 AM

On what grounds CEB Charges were increased with unprecedented formula ? Any losses incurred by CEB is mainly due to excessive labour by politicians, large scale corruptions, less out-put of the workforce etcetera. Then why did they raised charges from us instead of taking stern actions for the accountable ? Hence, do the needful !
