Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa today called for urgent constitutional reforms under which he proposed the reduction of powers of the Executive Presidency and bringing about checks and balances between the main pillars of the governance.
We have to change the present system of governance where there is an all-powerful Executive Presidency within this week. It is possible to use the available mechanism to bring about this reforms within this week,” Mr. Premadasa told Parliament.
“We must ensure a proper system of governance where the Prime Minister could turn the President into a scarecrow and vice versa,” he added.
“People want a new beginning. The present government received a massive mandate from the people who were full of expectations. All this is lost today, and the country wants a new beginning. Do those who are gathered in this chamber understand the plight of the people? They are unable to buy essential goods. People want this government to go home. Time has come to change the Executive Presidency. We have to do this urgently. Let’s do it within this week using the available mechanism,” he said.
Mr. Premadasa reiterated that SJB is not prepared to get engaged in a game of musical chairs with the cabinet. We will not go after perks, I am speaking on behalf of the entire SJB and anyone who is against that stand can get up and express themselves. We will not take disciplinary action against anyone of them,” he also said. (Yohan Perera and Kelum Bandara)

Arrange a permanent resident visa for foreigners who are married to Sri Lankans. Didn't Sri Lanka respect family law? Why foreigners have to do a nonsensical medical test every year for $ 75,- and every 2 years have to go to immigration for a visa extension. let's also introduce this system for all Sri Lankan who are going to live abroad. Respect the rights of foreigners who are married to a Sri Lankan. And give them a permanent resident visa with a work permit.

Bring a new constitution abolishing executive presidency and dissolve the Parliament paving a way for a general election. This is the best solution for the present political crisis.

What John says is right .. Made dual citizenship very much easy to get and cheap to get . All those married Sri Lankan must have permanent residency so that they come and go any time. they invest and they will bring more to our country . This is a common sense...Kow how to make money and how bring foreign investment

Abolish executive president and arrange early election to parliament
John Tuesday, 05 April 2022 08:41 PM
We don’t have to give cheap dual citizenship. Our taxes are amongst the lowest. It is the main problem for Sri Lanka. The governments have been earning far less than what is spent annually. So we are heavily in debt. With so many subsidies given to citizens who live and work here since their birth we don’t need another set of freeloaders! Sajja should be told that the problem isn’t the constitution but our fiscal management.
