Claiming that the National People's Power (NPP) is ready to work in unison to rescue the country from its economic woes as requested by the Finance Minister, NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today it would be a useless move unless the President and Prime Minister resign.
He told Parliament that the President was responsible for the economic crisis and that the NPP was not ready to support an all-party government when the President is still steering the country.
He said the present economic debacle is a result of the failed economic policies such as printing money, ban on chemical fertilizer and stop the import of raw materials.
"The President, the Prime Minister, the Cabinet and the Finance Minister cannot get away by accepting that they had made the mistake. This is not a minor mistake. It is a serious issue," he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

What right do you have asking the president or the pm to resign as they were elected by a majority in the country through a democratic process and what did you get overall 3% so go home Anura your political career is over and we will ensure in the next election too

Sickening irony being:The country is railing around politicians whom they elected and gave a 2/3rd majority who eventually cleaned up the nation's resources according to allegations. The entire Rajapaksa clan including even remotely connected relatives are said to have collectively robbed the nation. Now the dilemma is the President has 3 yrs to remain in Parliament and being the thick skinned individual he is refuses to budge as does the rest of the Rajapaksa entourage. The No Confidence motion presented by the opposition has to be successful for the country to have any kind of redemption. Just pray that it does!

If the president resigns Mahinda will be the president until the next president is elected. If both Gota and Mahinda resign who will govern the country? Why are there no leaders among the protesters? Who are the real handlers of these protest? Is it the US, UK or the Tamil diaspora?
