In a letter addressed to President Ranil Wickremesinghe, MP Patali Champika Ranawaka today laid out conditions to start up a dialogue with the former to set up an all party government.

“We urge you to abolish the cabinet which you have already appointed, abolish some of the appointments made by you which included those involved in corruption, to reveal what you intend to follow when dealing with IMF and what alternative steps are to be taken if Sri Lanka fails to strike a deal with the IMF. There is no point in having open dialogues if you don’t reveal your stance on the matters I have mentioned,” Mr. Ranawaka said in his letter.

“The new government which you intend forming must comprise all political parties, and each party could play a role in Parliament by joining committees,” he added.

He said the government which the President intends forming should be truly an all party government and a government which carries out a programme with the consent of all political parties.

“Continuance of a dialogue on an all party government depends on your ideology on the facts which I have come up with,” he added. (Yohan Perera)

Ranil might reject outright the conditions laid out.

You should be on top of corrupt and criminal list as you used your polityconnections to keep well out of “Hit and Run” case. Shame on you!

Need to add, this all party government should be for a fixed period of time, say six months and a election need to called for a fresh mandate.

These things will never happen on the background of all political parties in Sri Lanka Ultimately what will happen is Ranil will have to go with Pohottuwa Mps with other dissident groups

CORRECT / People NEED genuine statesmen and stateswomen.

Probably by the time Ranil finishes the discussions with all different parties, the 2 year term will come to an end!

With these conditions, nothing will work. If you need consensus of all these parties with conflicting interests , you will never agree to even the time for lunch.

Is this more waffle from the SJB? Surely the President has already made it quite clear that the present cabinet was appointed as a stop-gap measure, until such time that an all-party government was formed?

Thought this guys was intelligent... but reading this we have to wonder ... He should know that the cabinet was stated and intended to be temporary, the president is confident about striking a deal with the IMF .. there really is no Plan B as it would be a requisite for any further borrowing, what is intended to be followed with the IMF us under negotiation ... Who on earth lays out a position when negotiations are still underway. Patali the jester ... or is he a drama maker ..

If all parties do not join, Prez should proceed with all available parties, as the Rev. Mahasangha at Asgiri Vihara suggested during the recent visit to Kandy by PM.

The concept of all parties is a pipe dream of few politicians as they are so self centred and easily prone to corruption to strengthen their own financial needs. I reckon it is better to continue as it is till the end of this parliament without any further disruptions.
