Strict regulations in place after Swine fever outbreak

Strict regulations have been introduced following the African Swine Fever epidemic, which has now been brought 95 per cent under control, according to the Department of Animal Production and Health.

Director General Hemali Kothalawala told Daily Mirror that around 2,800 farms across nine provinces were infected during the outbreak, leading to the death of more than 70,000 pigs, including wild boars.

She noted that the spread was curbed through strict measures such as regular inspections by veterinary surgeons, ensuring biosafety on farms, and banning the transport of infected pigs and pork products.
