Special Police protection for ASG Dileepa Peeris following assassination threat

An STF team has been tasked with safeguarding ASG Peeris at his residence and during all official travel

A special police team has been deployed to provide security for Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Dileepa Peeris following credible intelligence about a possible assassination plot by organized crime groups reportedly operating from Dubai, informed sources said.

 The decision to enhance ASG Peeris’s security was made after IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya received a tip-off on the night of Saturday, August 23. Immediate action was taken to assign a specially trained unit from the Special Task Force (STF) to ensure the safety of the senior state counsel.  The STF team, equipped and trained for VIP protection, has been tasked with safeguarding ASG Peeris at his residence and during all official travel. ASG Peeris has recently represented the Attorney General’s Department in several high-profile and controversial legal cases, which sources suggest may have led to the reported threat.
