A woman and two others including her son employed under a manpower institution supplying household servants resorted to theft of property in houses were taken into custody by Bemmulla police yesterday.
They were residents of Hanguranketha area.
Police arrested them during investigation of a robbery at a house in Sapugasthenna in Bemmulla.
Two unidentified men who entered a three storied house at Bemmulla had trussed up a 54 year old woman and her seven year grandson living in a two storied house and robbed them of cash, jewellery and two mobile phones.
The complainant told police that she employed a woman supplied by a manpower institution in Negombo about a month ago and that she disappeared after the robbery.
During investigations, the police received information that she was a resident of Hanguranketha area but the manpower institution was not in a possession of a police report regarding her. When inquired, Hanguranketha police had informed that she was a wanted suspect under arrest warrant for evading court in connection with a series of offences. Later the police received information leading to the arrest of her son at Eppawala town. Under interrogation, he provided information on the other two men and his mother.
Police arrested them in Minuwangoda town and seized the motorcycle used by the robbers. The suspect woman admitted that she helped her son and the other two men to enter the house and to perpetrate the robbery.
A police team under OIC Bemmuilla police Nuwan Siripathi is conducting further investigations.
