The body of an infant, which had been placed at the Colombo National Hospital mortuary, has gone missing, the Maradana Police said.

The remains were discovered on August 1 inside a toilet of a stationary train at the Maligawatta railway yard, under the Dematagoda Police Division. Following a court order, the body was placed at the hospital mortuary for safekeeping.

Police officers from Dematagoda visited the mortuary on August 29 and 31 to conduct a post-mortem examination. However, the staff were unable to produce the infant’s body, raising serious concerns.

Authorities are now probing how the body went missing from the hospital facility.
