Inappropriate touch in bus lands person in court

The Cinnamon Gardens Police arrested a person and produced him before court over allegations of harassing a university girl in a  passenger bus while seated behind her.  

A 27-year-old university student was allegedly harassed  while travelling from Horana to Colombo in a private bus, when the  suspect, seated behind her, discreetly pressed against her back on several  occasions, the police told court. The suspect was produced before court by the Police  following his arrest. Submitting facts, police informed court that the  complainant is a 27-year-old undergraduate of the University of Colombo.  

 According to police, the complainant had been travelling  from Horana to Colombo in a private bus when the suspect, who was seated  directly behind her, on several occasions inappropriately touched and  pressed against her back in a discreet manner.  

Police further stated that when the victim raised her voice  inside the bus and revealed what had happened, a police officer who was  among the passengers apprehended the suspect and handed him over to the Cinnamon Gardens Police.  

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama yesterday  granted bail to the suspect on two sureties of Rs.  200,000 each, and ordered that the case relating to this incident be  taken up again on December 1.
