Hot weather conditions are expected to affect several parts of Sri Lanka once again, with the Department of Meteorology issuing an amber advisory for 10 districts, effective today.

The warning covers the Eastern and North-Central Provinces, along with Hambantota, Monaragala, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Kilinochchi Districts.

According to the Department, the Heat Index — the temperature felt on the human body — is likely to reach the ‘Caution level’ in some areas.

Authorities have warned that prolonged exposure and outdoor activity may cause fatigue, while continued activity could result in heat cramps.

Health officials have advised the public to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, wear light-coloured clothing, and keep vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and outdoor workers protected from direct sunlight.

The public has also been urged to take regular breaks in shaded or cool places and watch for early signs of heat-related illness such as dizziness, heavy sweating, or nausea.
