Confirmed fuel shipments will arrive until March 31, and more deliveries are planned from April 6 to 29
CPC has also ordered over 10% extra fuel as a contingency stock
Amid public worries about fuel, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Managing Director Mayura Netthikumara said there is enough fuel, and supplies are safe until mid-May.
He told the media that confirmed fuel shipments will arrive until March 31, and more deliveries are planned from April 6 to 29. CPC has also ordered over 10% extra fuel as a contingency stock.
However, some people are unhappy with these claims. Reports show that some filling stations are hoarding fuel. Netthikumara said a few stations requested up to 18 tankers to store enough fuel for six months due to operational problems.
Critics warn that this could make it harder for regular drivers to get fuel and question whether CPC is properly monitoring the situation.
Officials say there is no need to panic, but long queues at some petrol stations show that fear of shortages is causing people to stock up, which could undermine the CPC’s reassurances.
Many citizens are left asking: is Sri Lanka really ready for the coming months, or is a hidden fuel problem growing?
