Video circulating on social media allegedly shows a UFO following a shrimp farmer in Iranawila

Professor Chandana Jayaratne, head of the Department of Physics at the University of Colombo and Chairman of the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies, has stated that videos purporting to show Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) are regularly submitted to him and associated scientific institutions in Sri Lanka 

He made these remarks in response to a video circulating on social media that allegedly shows a UFO following a shrimp farmer in Iranawila. According to the footage, a blinking object believed to be a UFO was sighted near the Voice of America (VOA) transmission centre in Iranawila in the early hours of last Friday. 

The sighting was reportedly made around 3.00 a.m. by a shrimp farmer operating a farm located about 500 metres northwest of the VOA facility. The farmer said he initially noticed a blinking light in the sky and attempted to signal it using a torch.  “After about fifteen minutes, the light started moving towards my direction. It looked like some kind of ship, but its shape was not clear. When it came very fast towards me, I switched off the torch and started running,” the farmer said.  He said he alerted a colleague who was at the farm cottage before fleeing the area. “The light followed us towards the bushes. Once we switched off the torch, the object stopped moving and remained stationary in the sky. My colleague managed to record a video of the incident. We stayed hidden until around 5.45 a.m., when we noticed two illuminated objects in the sky,” he added.
