Dog beaten with a club, smashed on the ground, and thrown into a canal

A dog escaped with injuries after it was allegedly beaten with a club, smashed on the ground, and thrown into a canal by a youth in the Edinburgh Estate area of Nanuoya, police said.  

The attack reportedly took place after the dog bit a cat belonging to the suspect. In retaliation, the youth is accused of brutally assaulting the dog before throwing it into the canal. However, the animal managed to swim to safety despite its injuries.  

The dog’s owner lodged a complaint with the Nanuoya Police, stating that the pet was left injured following the incident. Meanwhile, the youth also filed a counter-complaint, alleging that his cat had been bitten by the dog.  Nanuoya Police OIC W.D.C. Jayatileka said both parties were summoned for an inquiry, during which the suspect agreed to provide treatment for the injured dog. The matter was later settled.
