Colombo Additional Magistrate Nuwan Kaushalya today directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to obtain a report from the Government Analyst regarding the quality standards of cosmetic creams distributed island wide by Lolliya Skin Care (pvt) Ltd. A business owned by actress and model Piumi Hansamali.
The order was issued after the CID’s Illegal Assets Investigation Division of the Organised Crimes Unit submitted a motion to court, seeking permission to produce the creams marketed by Piumi Hansamali in order to determine whether they meet the required safety standards.
The investigation was launched based on a complaint alleging that Piumi Hansamali had unlawfully accumulated wealth amounting to millions within a short period by maintaining close associations with politicians and other influential individuals.
According to submissions made by the Illegal Assets Investigation Division, it was revealed that Piumi Hansamali, a resident of Hilton Residencies, Colombo, maintains 19 bank accounts. Investigations further revealed that she had purchased a Range Rover valued at approximately Rs. 80 million, allegedly using the name of a former President, and acquired an apartment worth Rs. 148 million at a housing complex in Colombo 7. The CID informed court that the investigations are being conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act No. 5 of 2006, as amended by Act No. 40 of 2011.
