Provisional data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) shows that the number of tourists who visited Sri Lanka in the first week of October exceeded 25,000. In its weekly tourist arrivals report, SLTDA announced an expected fourth quarter (4Q23) tourist arrivals of 533,744 and expressed confidence to achieve the year's arrival target of 1.55 million. I am Sri Lankan living in the West since I first came here for undergraduate university education many decades ago. So, I have the best insight into the thinking of Westerners than my countrymen back home in Sri Lanka. These Western tourists walking around our country in partly covered causal clothes is actually a sign of arrogance on the part of the Westerners. European holiday makers in America or vice versa don’t dress so informal in their sightseeing walks , they only dress poorly when they visit Asia or Africa. Some foolish Sri Lankans would say it is because of the hot weather they dress so, but certain parts of America are much hotter than Africa or Asia but still European tourists dress properly when walking around in cities and towns.

Although there is agreat potential for local and foreign tourism, the authorities are not doing enough to improve the quality of service. Nuwara Eliya for example is very dirty and the majority of cheap accommodation is in dire conditions.

For cultural reasons, pale skinned people are generally despised throughout the world, only liked because the carry money. Pale skinned often see their skin colour as a sign of superiority, and some of religious text which reinforces such madness. Our country can help our citizens much by giving these people star class treatment, without getting too close to them in general.
