Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva visited the National Hospital and the Army Hospital to assess the condition of the paratroopers who were injured when their parachutes failed to open properly during the Independence Day rehearsals held at Galle Face Green this morning.

Using Borrowed money to Show Off Wednesday, 31 January 2024 05:52 AM
Absolutely. Using borrowed money to show off. Just a simple ceremony would justify the current situation.

Thank God they are safe. No more paratroopers circus, until the people's curses against politicians vanish
Don Wednesday, 31 January 2024 12:47 AM
Don't blame politicians. Just looking for the root cause. Some idiots, most top ranks are trying to entertain politicians for the sake of their survival.

Everybody unitedly must celebrate, 'hard won' Independence, on 4th February 2024, to demonstrate our sense of Nationalism, importantly PATRIOTISM!?
Mandayan Wednesday, 31 January 2024 12:32 AM
Independence Day for what? The president says the country can't escape the grip of the IMF. The idiotic and greedy politicians pawned the country back to the West and tried to hoodwink the people with false Indenpendence day celeberation.
L Jaya Wednesday, 31 January 2024 01:36 AM
This not a good sign, RW should abandon the Independent day proceedings. How could we spend money on false celebrations when majority are finding daily issues to feed children and send children to school
Ram Wednesday, 31 January 2024 02:05 AM
Top Brass visit the injured and this will be the first

The 'Chief of Staff' need to lose some weight and get in shape to set an example.

I have a question? Why we call the day when the occupiers, looters left Sri Lanka as independent day? They occupied Sri Lanka only for about 500 years or so, maximum. Were we not an independent nation, before they occupy? By celebrating the day the occupiers left as independence day, are we not giving undue prominence to a group who unlawfully occupied and looted us?
Ruwan Yahasith Fernando Wednesday, 31 January 2024 10:02 AM
Stop this madness now!! We don’t need an independence parade, when the common man is bound in debt and despair! President RW resign now!
june macapagal Wednesday, 31 January 2024 11:35 AM
Who the hell wants all these shows? Only the Ranil and Rajapakse group want to put on this bullshit show at the expense of the people. All should boycott this nonsense of a show and for whose benefit are the putting up this show when the country is bankrupt and going around the world with the begging bowl.

Call it ‘ development day ‘ and spend the money on roads, transport, health, education and food production. Introduce strict laws to evict squatters. Millions spent on evicting squatters in Sri Lankan courts.
DISGUSTED Wednesday, 31 January 2024 06:13 PM
WE SHOULD ASK OUR SELVES IS THE COUNTRY TRULY INDEPENDANT? IN THIS DAY AND AGE? OR ARE WE SCAPE GOATS NODDING TO BIG EARSGIVING ORDERS FROM THE GALLERY? FOOD FOR THOUGHT.
