Vidullanka PLC, a major player in Sri Lanka’s renewable energy sector, has announced the successful commissioning of its 3MWp Matara Solar Power Plant on September 19, 2025.
The new facility, located in Kamburupitiya, Matara, is a step forward in the nation’s push towards sustainable energy. The project was executed through Matara Solar Power (Pvt) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Vidullanka PLC. The solar plant is projected to generate 5.5 GWh of clean energy annually, which will be supplied to the national grid. This contribution will support Sri Lanka’s ambitious renewable energy targets and sustainability objectives.
This commissioning marks another milestone in Vidullanka’s continuous expansion. According to its 2025 annual report, the company has been aggressively growing its portfolio, which includes hydro, solar, and dendro power projects both locally and internationally.
The company’s total installed capacity stood at 51 MW as of March 2025, generating approximately 198.7 GWh annually for the national grids of Sri Lanka and Uganda.
The completion of the Matara plant aligns with the company’s strategy of commissioning at least one project per year, a pace that has solidified its financial performance and market position.
