Melwa donates lab equipment to South Eastern University

Melwa has donated laboratory equipment to the Faculty of Engineering at the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka in a move aimed at strengthening engineering education and practical training.

The donation, handed over recently, included a steel bar bending machine (8mm–40mm), three weighing scales, six vernier calipers (150mm and 300mm), and five steel tapes (5m).

The equipment was presented to the Department of Civil Engineering in the presence of the head and lecturers of the department, technical staff, Melwa’s Eastern Region representatives, and other officials.

University officials welcomed the contribution, stating that the equipment would give undergraduates greater exposure to hands-on learning and improve their practical understanding of civil engineering.

Melwa described the initiative as part of its corporate social responsibility programmes to support higher education and professional development.

The company added that it intends to continue building partnerships with universities to help bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry needs.

Founded in 2003, Melwa has grown into a diversified conglomerate with operations in several market sectors. It is the country’s largest steel manufacturer, producing a wide range of products including rebars, flat iron, angle iron, wire rod, pre-galvanised hollow sections and pipes, purlins, welding electrodes, tower bolts, and copper wires.
