Saumitra Gupta
Saumitra Gupta has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (Actg.) of Hutch Sri Lanka effective from 1st August 2023.
His appointment comes in the wake of Hutch Sri Lanka CEO Thirukumar Nadarasa, who has been with the Hutchinson Group for 25 years, retiring with effect from September 15, 2023.
Since he had accumulated outstanding leave, Nadarasa’s last working date with Hutch was 31st July 2023.
During his tenure, he worked in different Hutchison Telecommunication subsidiaries in the group. He rejoined Hutch Sri Lanka in 2012 as Chief Executive Officer.
Under his leadership, Hutch Sri Lanka successfully overcame many difficult challenges and achieved good results in a very competitive market.
Saumitra re-joined Hutch Sri Lanka in 2021 as Chief Commercial Officer after his secondment to Hutchison Indonesia. He was instrumental in reorganizing the commercial division and generating positive customer and revenue growth for the organization.
He has over 20 years of experience in the Telecommunications & IT industry spanning over Africa, Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Electronics & Communications Engineering, and postgraduate in Telecom Management with specialization in Marketing & Finance.
Commenting on the appointment, Saumitra stated, “I am honored and excited to lead Hutch into this transformative era. Our continuing focus will be to deliver best mobile data experience to all Sri Lankans. We will continue to develop our service offerings on our nationwide 4G infrastructure to help build a digitally inclusive nation whilst providing great value to our customers and all stakeholders”.
