Efforts are underway to establish a new industrial zone in Ingiriya and begin the second phase of development at the Raigama Milleniya industrial park, the government said this week, as part of a broader push to attract investments into the Western Province.
The Cabinet of Ministers has cleared the proposal by the Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship to develop a 350-acre site in Ingiriya, Kalutara District, with a planned investment of Rs. 2.5 billion.
The project will focus on setting up zones for automobile and spare parts manufacturing, rubber-based industries, pharmaceutical production, and mixed industrial activity.
In addition, Cabinet approved the commencement of the second phase of the Raigama Milleniya industrial park, with Rs. 500 million earmarked to develop 24 acres of land carved out of the 200-acre New Wetalwaththa estate. The area is being positioned as the Raigama Industrial and Technological Development Zone.
Sri Lanka currently operates 33 industrial zones island-wide, with eight located in the Western Province. Authorities said the region continues to draw strong interest from both local and foreign investors due to its superior infrastructure and talent pool.
