Vidullanka’s associate company power plant connected to national grid

Vidullanka PLC, a mini hydro developer, yesterday said its associate Nilwala Vidulibala Company (Pvt.) Ltd has successfully completed the construction of the two megawatt Ethamala Mini Hydro Power Plant in Pitabeddara, Matara and the plant was grid connected on September 30.


Vidullanka PLC owns 26.6 percent of the issued share capital of Nilwala Vidulibala Company (Pvt.) Ltd. 

The Vidullanka annual report said the company envisages to further increase its investment into Nilwala Vidulibala Company (Pvt.) Ltd.


Established as a Board of Investment-approved venture in 1997, Vidullanka is one of the key players in the Sri Lanka renewable energy industry. 


The company commissioned its first mini hydropower plant Bambarabatuoya MHPP in 2001 and since then, it steadily built up its generation capacity.


To date, Vidullanka PLC has developed, constructed and operates eight mini hydropower projects in Sri Lanka with the total installed capacity is over 17 megawatts and annually contributing 68 gigawatt hours of clean energy to the Sri Lankan national grid.
