The cabinet of ministers has decided to purchase 300,000 metric tonnes (MT) of pressurized liquid petroleum gas (LPG) for the state-run Litro Gas from Shell International Eastern Trading Company.
Shell International was also the winner of the previous year’s contract for supply of LPG to Litro.
The proposal made in this regard to by Public Enterprises Development Minister Kabir Hashim was approved by the cabinet of ministers.
The contract was awarded to Shell after a tender process, which some stakeholders alleged was biased towards certain players.
However, Litro Gas Chairman Shaleela Moonesinghe had dismissed all such allegations.
The contract period for the supply of the 300,000 MT of LPG was to begin from July/August 2017 and terminate within one year.
