Power tariff revision public hearing to kick off on May 23

The power regulator has launched the public consultation process on a proposed electricity tariff revision for the second half of 2025, with the oral hearings scheduled across the nine provinces from May 23 to June 03.

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) announced that written submissions from the stakeholders, including the public, would be accepted until June 5, in line with the requirements under PUCSL Act No. 35 of 2002 and Electricity Act No. 20 of 2009.

The act mandates the public and stakeholder input ahead of any tariff changes.

The proposed revision, submitted by the state-run Ceylon Electricity Board, has been reviewed by the PUCSL. A consultation document detailing the proposal is available on the PUCSL website.

The in-person oral sessions, which will take place in all nine provinces, form part of an expanded outreach effort by the PUCSL to gather public views before making a final decision on the proposed rates.
