The ASPI edged down as a result of price losses in counters such as Sampath Bank, Richard Pieris & Company and DFCC Bank with the turnover crossing Rs. 5.4 Bn. Meanwhile, the S&P SL20 closed in green. High net worth and institutional investor participation was noted in LOLC Holdings, Cargills, Brown & Company, . Mixed interest was observed in Colombo Dockyard, Browns Investments and Ambeon Capital whilst retail interest was noted in SMB Leasing, Muller & Phipps and Hikkaduwa Beach Resort.Foreign participation in the market activity remained at subdued levels with foreigners closing as net sellers.
Capital Goods sector was the top contributor to the market turnover (due to Brown & Company, Colombo Dockyard and Royal Ceramics) whilst the sector index gained 0.40%. The share price of Brown & Company gained Rs 18.75 (10.15%) to close at Rs 203.50. The share price of Colombo Dockyard moved down by Rs 2.75 (1.84%) to close at Rs 147.00. The share price of Royal Ceramics recorded a gain of Rs 2.40 (4.70%) to close at Rs 53.50.
Diversified Financials sector was the second highest contributor to the market turnover (due to LOLC Holdings) whilst the sector index increased by 0.34%. The share price of LOLC Holdings increased by Rs 18.25 (3.04%) to close at Rs 617.75.
Browns Investments was also included amongst the top turnover contributors. The share price of Browns Investments appreciated by Rs 0.10 (1.41%) to close at Rs 7.20.
