Indices close in red



Indices closed in red as a result of price losses in counters such as Commercial Bank, Sampath Bank and DFCC Bank with the turnover crossing Rs. 4.0 Bn. High net worth and institutional investor participation was noted in Hatton National Bank, Pan Asia Banking Corporation and Singer Sri Lanka. Mixed interest was observed in Sanasa Development Bank, John Keells Holdings and R I L Property whilst retail interest was noted in Prime Lands Residencies, Panasian Power and Browns Investments. Foreign participation in the market activity remained at subdued levels with foreigners closing as net sellers.

The Banking sector was the top contributor to the market turnover (due to Hatton National Bank, Sanasa Development Bank and Pan Asia Banking Corporation) whilst the sector index lost 1.89%. The share price of Hatton National Bank decreased by Rs 4.25 (1.11%) to close at Rs 380.00. The share price of Sanasa Development Bank moved down by Rs 1.60 (3.32%) to close at Rs 46.60. The share price of Pan Asia Banking Corporation declined by Rs 1.00 (1.72%) to close at Rs 57.00.

Capital Goods sector was the second highest contributor to the market turnover whilst the sector index decreased by 0.39%.

Prime Lands Residencies and Singer Sri Lanka were also included amongst the top turnover contributors. The share price of Prime Lands Residencies gained Rs 1.20 (3.74%) to close at Rs 33.30. The share price of Singer Sri Lanka recorded a gain of Rs 0.10 (0.15%) to close at Rs 67.10.
