World Food Programme Sri Lanka Representative and Country Director Philip Ward, Defence Ministry Secretary Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Sampath Thuyacontha and Disaster Management Centre Director General Major General (Rtd.) Sampath Kotuwegoda officially present National Anticipatory Action Roadmap 2026-2030
The Disaster Management Centre (DMC), with technical leadership from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Sri Lanka and generous funding from the government of the United States of America, launched Sri Lanka’s Anticipatory Action (AA) Roadmap for 2026-2030, bringing together government, UN and humanitarian partners.
The roadmap sets out a coordinated approach to anticipatory action across key sectors.
The AA roadmap strengthens Sri Lanka’s disaster preparedness by advancing impact-based forecasting, early warning systems and forecast-based financing.
It is developed through the National Anticipatory Action Working Group--including DMC, WFP, UN agencies, I/NGOs, civil society and private sector partners. It will support timely, early action to reduce disaster risks and better protect vulnerable communities.
The United Nations WFP is the world’s largest humanitarian organisation, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change.
