Central Bank urges investors to register with LankaSecureNet

By Shannine Daniel

The Central Bank recently called on the investors who have not yet registered with its LankaSecureNet facility to do so.

LankaSecureNet is the online viewing facility for government securities accounts in the Central Depository System (CDS).

It was introduced by the Central Bank in 2005.

The investors of government securities can view the details on the transactions they have made, interest and maturity payments and outstanding balances in their securities accounts from anywhere and at any time.

In a recent social media post, the monetary authority urged the investors to register with LankaSecureNet, asserting that it is a smarter and more convenient way to access their government securities accounts online.

According to the Central Bank, LankaSecureNet gives the investors the convenience of viewing real-time balances, tracking investments, access to traction history and instant updates.

The investors can register on LankaSecureNet by accessing the Central Bank’s website or contacting their custodian institution to get the relevant application.

The completed application needs to be sent to the Central Bank by the relevant custodian institution.

Once the registration process is complete, the investors will receive their login details for LankaSecureNet.

The Central Bank stated in its social media post that LankaSecureNet allows the investors to stay informed and connected, with easy access to their investments at their fingertips.

The Central Bank’s LankaSecure system electronically records transactions and ownership in government securities.

It is a customer-based title registry for government securities.

Moreover, the system consists of the central depository for government securities and scripless securities settlement system.

LankaSecure offers the following services free of charge to facilitate secured investments in treasury bills and bonds: LankaSecure e-statements, LankaSecureNet, real-time SMS and email notifications and balance confirmation of treasury bills and bonds.

LankaSecure e-statements are periodic electronic statements from LankaSecure that the investors receive via email.

Physical statements were discontinued early last year, in a bid to be eco-friendlier and more cost-effective.

The balance confirmation of treasury bills and bonds allows the investors to obtain statements of outstanding balances in securities accounts by LankaSecure.

These statements can be obtained for specific purposes such as annual or periodic audits, visa applications and regulatory requirement submissions, via an email request to LankaSecure.

The Central Bank also continues to urge all investors to register for real-time alerts via email and SMS, by providing a valid mobile number or email address to their relevant custodian institute.
