Ceylon Tobacco Company PLC (CTC), the local unit of British American Tobacco (BAT), has announced the appointment of Michael Koest as the new Managing Director/CEO with the resignation of Felicio Ferraz after a three-year stint in the post.
The appointment will come into effect from March 31, 2016. Koest joined BAT in 2001 in Zug, Switzerland. He has a proven track record in
sales and marketing at BAT— a global FTSE 100 FMCG business.
Experienced in working across geographies and in complex environments, he has built high-performing, motivated and engaged teams through his inspiring and achievement-driven leadership style.
Extremely determined commercial leader, strategic thinker and renowned team player, he consistently achieved outstanding business results.
Prior to his assignment in Sri Lanka, he held various positions at BAT, mainly in the areas of strategy, planning and marketing.
Koest was Commercial Director at BAT Netherlands from 2010 to 2012 and at BAT Korea from 2013
to 2015.
He served in the director board of Dutch retailer Primera B.V. during 2010-2012. He was appointed to the board of directors of the American Chamber of Commerce this year.
Koest holds a BA degree from the University of Neuchatel (Switzerland) in Philosophy, Geography and German Literature.
