The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has issued a circulation standard commemorative currency note in the denomination of Rs.1000 to mark the 70th Independence celebration in the country on
February 4, 2018.
This is the fourth commemorative note issued by the Central Bank.
The size, predominant colour and security features of this commemorative currency note are as same as in the currently circulating Rs.1000 note in 11th currency note series except for several changes.
The changes are: on the front of the note: (i) celebrating diversity logo appears at the lower left corner of the note, replacing the butterfly in the currently circulating Rs.1000 currency note in 11th currency note series, (ii) images of a temple, mosque, Hindu kovil and a church appear at the centre of the note, replacing the image of the Ramboda tunnel in the currently circulating Rs.1000 currency note in 11th currency note series and (iii) prefix of the note appears as S70, replacing the prefix S.
