Sri Lanka has been ranked as the 11th most miserable country in the Hanke's Annual Misery Index (HAMI) 2022.

Economist Steve Hanke's index provided rankings for a total of 157 countries. The index is the sum of the year-end unemployment, inflation, and bank-lending rates, minus the annual percentage change in real GDP per capita.

Zimbabwe has been ranked as the ‘most miserable country’ in the Index.

Among the countries ranked, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, Syria, Lebanon, Sudan, Argentina, Yemen, Ukraine, Cuba, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Haiti, Angola, Tonga, and Ghana emerged as the 15 most miserable countries worldwide.

Among the 157 countries analysed, Switzerland emerged as the least miserable, occupying the top position (157) on the list.

World bank statistics 2019 indicate 7.5 murders per 100k in USA and 3 murders per 100k citizens in Sri Lanka. Chill places opening almost fortnightly in Colombo area. eg Bamba food court. Aluth kaday Street food etc. It's important to help Sri Lankans to stay positive and be resilient to overcome this so called misery. after all happiness is a state of mind.

Surprise is that it's taken that long for people in the nation to realise how useless the 225 they keep voting in and allowing to stay in parliament a really are. There is really no social hope in sight for people here. The old cronies are controlling the country putting up 2500 culture as the truth. Those who try to speak truth, are arrested for insulting relation, judiciary or some other against freedom of speech thing. Steve Hanke's ranking is an important, but very one-sided, because of the economic point of view, on the most diverse countries on earth! Sri Lanka is an extraordinary and beautiful country with an admirable culture and philosophy, unfortunately with a changing, corrupt and pathetic government that has been in power for a long time! As important as economic data are when considering a country, they only reflect one (!) (although important) aspect, which does not, however, give a correction to describe a country as a "miserable country"!!! Look at other, economically better off countries that are doing well, but still have a variety of problems and unhappy people! Everything is relative in life and depends on the standards you use! And all of these ranking agencies are highly questionable from the start! Sri Lanka will overcome its big problems with a better government!!!

Who said that lankans are miserable!??? Lankans are The smartest voters!! Of the current 225, more than 60% Over 60 years old. Moreover, lankans have elected 80% of the 225 politicians for over 25 years continuesly. The same bunch bankrupt this country. And The leaders made this country living hell for sometime, with no water no electricity no fuel no gas no milk powder no medicine. Hello, in fact we lankans love being misarable and we're enjoying it, otherwise why we send the same scumbags who made us misarable to parliament at every elections.
