Three unidentified armed men who arrived at the Minuwangoda home of a prison officer attached to the New Magazine Prison in Colombo, had attacked and threatened him with death yesterday.
Prison spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said the incident was reported early morning on Friday and the officer's mother had also been attacked by the suspects.
The spokesman said the armed men, who arrived wearing jackets and covering their faces at the officer's Minuwangoda home had threatened the prison officer stating, "What kind of a person are you to stop heroin in the prison when anyone can't stop drug trafficking in the country?" They had also attacked the officer's mother, taken his sister's mobile phone and smashed it on the floor and then had made the officer kneel down and handcuffed him before taking photographs and leaving the house.
The spokesman said the officer had lodged a complaint on the incident with the Minuwangoda police. He is currently undergoing treatment at the Minuwangoda Hospital.
The Colombo New Magazine Prison has also commenced an investigation into this incident. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Prison Officers are not angels either. Saturday, 13 May 2023 06:17 PM
This is a terrible thing to have happened to a Prison Officer and to his family. But let us not forget just only a few months ago a prisoner, who was in remand in prison waiting for his case involving a minor crime to be heard in court, was shot dead by a prison officer when he tried to escape .

Follow the money, to catch the drug kingpins. Put a email, hotline etc where people could anonymously inform on suspicious rich people in the neighbourhood. Tax audit, if they cannot show how they got the money, booyah.
